Dar 24 was born from the shared passion of six friends, united since childhood and their student years by a love for old towns and the architectural treasures of Maghreb medinas.
During a stroll through the historic center of Tunis, they fell in love with this 18th-century bourgeois residence. Its proportions are modest yet perfectly balanced: a traditional winding entrance (skifa), a central patio around which life revolves, interconnected upstairs rooms, and a rooftop terrace overlooking the iconic domes of the Sidi Brahim Riahi mausoleum and the Sidi Mehrez mosque. Passing through the bab bel khoukha (the gated door), an immediate feeling of warmth and home takes over.
The renovation meticulously respected the building’s original soul, preserving the history embedded in its period tiles, marble, floors, and ceilings. To bridge the past and the present, the space also showcases contemporary creations by a new generation of Tunisian designers.
Opening our doors to global travelers was a natural choice. Living among these historic landmarks is a daily privilege. Staying a few hours or a few days in the medina means embracing the slow pace of an authentic village: exploring on foot, cycling to the Central Market, and sharing daily smiles with neighbors.
Our greatest joy? Hearing a young guest, coming back from a journey in the South, step through the door and say: "How wonderful to be back home!"
